Sasaki and Miyano Volume 3 - But Why Tho (1)

Sasaki and Miyano has been my wholesome manga, and with Volume 3, it continues the trend. Sasaki and Miyano Volume 3 is created, written, and illustrated by mangaka Shou Harusono. The series is published and localized in English by Yen Press, with Leighann Harvey serving as translator and DK providing lettering. The series follows the titular characters as they bond over BL and learn how to channel their emotions for each other beyond friendship.

Sasaki and Miyano Volume 3 has our two leads getting closer, with Sasaki sure of his feelings for Miyano but scared they won’t be reciprocated. On the other side, Miyano learns about Sasaki’s crush and pushes it off as much as he can while slowly realizing that Sasaki is a romance lead out of one of his BL.

If you’re unfamiliar with the series, Miyano is a BL fanboy and not too popular. Enter the popular Sasaki, who meets Miyano after school one day and begins to take an interest in BL to get closer to his new friend and develop their relationship into something more. While Miyano is very aware that Sasaki’s one-liners are straight out of the BL series he’s lending him, it takes time for him to understand that this way of communicating is because Sasaki is trying to close the distance between them.

In this volume, the confession is imminent. After struggling with his feelings for his adorable kouhai Miynano for almost a year, Sasaki takes the plunge and admits how he really feels. It’s the moment I have been waiting for, and it pays off entirely with awkwardness and wholesome budding love.

As a series, Sasaki and Miyano is about the awkwardness of teen love and how you come to accept romance from someone of the same gender and process your own growing emotions. It’s about learning to open up to someone else and at the same time welcoming them opening up to you. Sasaki and Miyano Volume 3 has a lightness and humor that manages not to take itself too seriously without undercutting the emotional importance of the pair’s growing bond. This is true for the dialogue, the physical comedy, and the side notes on the four-panel pages.

The best part of this volume is also how the two relate to the others around them. They have supportive friendships that add more to this slice of life story and add depth to the narrative. Overall, Harusono has crafted a series you should be reading. Whether you read BL or are just looking for wholesome, they have you covered. The only thing I need is to see what happens now that our leads have almost everything out in the open.  Now, it’s just about watching them grow into their emotions, as much as it was about finally getting a confession over the previous volumes in the series.

Sasaki and Miyano Volume 3 is available now wherever books are sold digitally and in stores.

TL;DR

Harusono has crafted a series you should be reading. Whether you read BL or are just looking for wholesome, they have you covered. The only thing I need now is to see what happens now that our leads have almost everything out in the open. Now, it’s just about watching them grow into their emotions, as much as it was about finally getting a confession over the previous volumes in the series.
