In Tomo-chan Is A Girl Episode 6 - But Why Tho

In Tomo-chan Is A Girl Episode 6, it is Tomo’s 16th birthday! Although the day initially slips her mind, her friends quickly remind her it is her special day. Misuzu and Carol invite Tomo to Misuzu’s house that weekend for a complete makeover and an extra birthday surprise. Little does Tomo know that her friends are hatching a plan that involves her new makeover and Jun.

Tomo-Chan Is A Girl is a youthful romantic comedy produced by Lay-duce, directed by Hitoshi Namba and Noriko Hashimoto, with Megumi Shimizu as head writer and character designer by Shiori Hiraiwa. Masaru Yokoyama does music composition. The voice cast consists of Rie Takahashi as Tomo Aizawa, Kaito Ishikawa as Junichirou “Jun” Kubota, Rina Hidaka as Misuzu Gundo, and Sally Amaki as Carol Olston.

Episode 6 finally gives more insight into Jun’s true feelings toward Tomo and their relationship. It feels like it has been an eternity waiting for Tomo-chan Is A Girl! to show things from Jun’s perspective. Although the moment touches on how Jun feels insecure about the possibility of him and Tomo dating one day because he does not feel he is worthy of her yet.

Jun sharing his real feelings and insecurities about Tomo affirms that he is more than an oblivious love interest. Episode 6 shows that he has been seriously considering how growing up can change his relationship with Tomo. Now that we have more insight into how Jun thinks and feels about Tomo, his character is more well-rounded.

The primary plot of Tomo-chan Is A Girl Episode 6 focuses on Tomo getting a massive makeover from Carol and Misuzu for her birthday to make her look more feminine. I had mixed feelings about Tomo’s makeover. After Misuzu and Carol have applied makeup, a wig, and girlier clothes to Tomo’s body, she is nearly unrecognizable.

My main concern about Tomo’s makeover is that it makes her look so different from her actual self. She is put in clothes and makeup that she is not used to wearing and are foreign to her. It would have been more impactful if they helped Tomo be more feminine in clothes and makeup that compliment her natural features and style.

Lastly, I would like the show to confirm whether or not Misuzu’s feelings for Tomo are more than platonic. In the previous episode, brief moments and exchanges suggest that Misuzu might have deeper feelings for Tomo. Episode 6 is the same. There is a moment when Tomo compliments Misuzu, which makes her flustered and blush. It is easy to mistake Misuzu’s feelings as something more than platonic, given how possessive she is towards Tomo. However, I wonder if the show will even explore those possessive feelings.

Tomo-Chan Is A Girl Episode 6 is an exciting watch overall. More than anything, this episode helped to flesh out the leading man’s personalities and motives. This episode also hints at another friend’s feelings being more than platonic, which may lead to drama. Although the makeover scene could have been executed better, Episode 6 shows there might be real hope for romance between our childhood friends yet.

Tomo-Chan Is A Girl! streams weekly on Crunchyroll.
