Ranking of Kings Season 2 Episode 6

Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage Season 2 Episode 6 is a fantasy adventure anime based on the Japanese manga series, Ranking of Kings, written and illustrated by Sōsuke Tōka. The head director of the series Yosuke Hatta (Boogiepop) at WIT Studio, with series composition by Taku Kishimoto (Fruits Basket), character designs by Atsuko Nozaki, and music by MAYUKO (Cells at Work!). Treasure Chest of Courage is a remarkable collection of short stories set during the first season of Ranking of Kings.

Episode 6 gives a glimpse into Bojji and Daida’s reigns as king. Following his successful rescue of the kingdom from the clutches of Miranjo, Bosse and Bojji struggles to navigate his new role without his best friend, Kage, by their side. Later, the episode shows Daida, Bojji’s younger brother, as king. Daida and Miranjo work to repair the mistakes of their pasts and help improve their subjects’ lives during a new era of peace.

Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage Episode 6 is the first time we see our main characters following the events of the season’s finale. Season 1 gave a brief glimpse of Bojji’s time as king before we decided to abdicate the throne to go on a new adventure with Kage. I appreciated that this episode dedicated more time to showing how Bojji adjusted to being king and overcame the doubts that others had about him being a capable leader and ruler.

Episode 6 does an excellent job of bringing the characters’ arcs full circle while setting them up for the next season. I was especially impressed with how this episode displayed Miranjo and Daida’s storyline to show how much these former antagonists have changed for the better. Daida learns that being a king takes more than strength and power; it takes a person willing to listen to and serve his people’s needs. Meanwhile, Miranjo, once terrifyingly callous and manipulative, redeems herself by giving back and teaching children.

Lastly, I would be mindful of discussing one of the most glaring issues with this episode, specifically regarding Daida and Miranjo’s relationship. That issue is that the show needs to specify the ages of these characters better, which is uncomfortable since Miranjo is much older than Daida.

Granted, this is also the case with other characters like Bojji, who is older than Daida and supposedly in his mid to late teens. But he looks like he could be five years old. However, his appearance is primarily related to the curse that was placed on him. Meanwhile, Daida is around 14 years, but he is engaged to Miranjo, who looks to be around his age but is much older.

I love the animation style of Ranking of Kings. However, the childlike appearance of some of their characters can be confusing in situations like this. I hope that the next season gives an appropriate explanation as to why Miranjo looks her age or even ages some of the characters up more.

Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage Episode 6 masterfully brings characters’ arcs full circle while setting the stage for future developments. The growth and redemption of Miranjo and Daida are particularly commendable, highlighting the depths of their transformations. This episode brilliantly explores Bojji’s struggle to adapt to his newfound role, grappling with the absence of his best friend, Kage. Although the unique animation style of Ranking of Kings adds charm to the series, it can sometimes create confusion regarding character appearances and age discrepancies.

Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage streams weekly on Crunchyroll.
