AleXa — But Why Tho

San Diego Comic-Con 2023 brought forth a plethora of exciting announcements, including the highly anticipated animated series, Ghosts of Ruin. The gritty dystopian show, produced by Battle Island and presented by Gala Film, explores the immersive world of advanced gaming technology and a neural reality battle royal tournament called Ruin. A captivating twist transforms the virtual paradise into a haunting nightmare, setting the stage for an epic adventure. The show boasts a robust cast that includes K-Pop idol, AleXa.

In both a Hall H panel and a roundtable interview at SDCC 2023, the spotlight shone on AleXa, who makes her first foray into voice acting through Ghosts of Ruin. Having competed in the reality show Rising Legends and signed with Zanybros’ ZB Label in 2018, AleXa’s journey to becoming a K-Pop singer was filled with determination and talent. Now, she steps into the world of animation with the exciting role of Juggernaut. During a roundtable interview at SDCC, AleXa, along with voice actors John Eric Bentley and Karen Strassman, shared their experiences working on Ghosts of Ruin and offered insights into their characters.

Juggernaut, the character AleXa brings to life, is described as wild, zany, and a pro gamer. AleXa resonates with Juggernaut’s character, emphasizing that she is less of a loose cannon in real life, but she thoroughly enjoys playing her on screen. The character’s fun and unpredictable nature made it a delight for AleXa to read her lines, and she eagerly anticipates the audience’s reaction to Juggernaut’s vibrant persona.

As a professional gamer in the series, Juggernaut is a stark contrast to AleXa’s real-life gaming skills. While she loves playing video games like Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead, AleXa admits her hand-eye coordination in gaming is not on par with her character’s skills. Nevertheless, she revels in Juggernaut’s prowess and the unique dynamic it brings to her voice-acting journey.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike is still going to get fair wages and better employment protections. Want to learn more? Check out this interview.

As a renowned K-Pop artist, AleXa’s fans during the Q&A session of the Hall H panel were curious if her musical talents would find a place in Ghosts of Ruin. While nothing was confirmed, AleXa’s interaction with the Bleeding Fingers team, responsible for the show’s score, sparked speculation during the panel. The potential of AleXa’s music finding its way into the series adds another layer of excitement to the project.

For AleXa, attending San Diego Comic-Con was a special experience. As a devoted fan of anime and comic franchises before becoming a K-Pop artist, she felt like she had come back home to the world of geek culture. Being on the opposite side of the spectrum, where fans now admire her, was an exhilarating and humbling experience. AleXa reveled in the energy of the event and the opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts.

During the interview, fellow cast members John Eric Bentley and Karen Strassman also had high praise for AleXa’s performance. John Bentley remarked, “This is one to watch. She’s one of the realest, most humble, most personal people that I’ve ever seen at this age doing what we do. I think we’re seeing the blossoming of the star and the endless visibility.” He believes that her artistic prowess and keen ear for nuances will elevate her performance to the next level.

For AleXa, this venture into voice acting is a dream come true. AleXa’s passion for acting and self-expression through the arts has drawn her towards voice acting, and she expressed a desire to continue exploring this avenue in addition to her successful K-Pop career. Despite being new to voice acting, with a stint of sending in clips to Fiverr, AleXa embraced the experience with enthusiasm. She acknowledged that each character has a unique way of speaking. She received helpful direction from the show’s creative team, making the transition into voice acting a smooth process.

As the anticipation for Ghosts of Ruin continues to build, fans eagerly await the opportunity to see AleXa’s captivating portrayal of Juggernaut. With her remarkable talents and dedication to her craft, AleXa’s venture into voice acting promises to be an exciting new chapter in her artistic journey. Who knows? Maybe a role with Studio Trigger may be in the K-Pop superstar’s future.

I am just a guy who spends way to much time playing videos games, enjoys popcorn movies more than he should, owns too much nerdy memorabilia and has lots of opinions about all things pop culture. People often underestimate the effects a movie, an actor, or even a video game can have on someone. I wouldn’t be where I am today without pop culture.
