After the successful debut of Castlevania: Nocturne, the sequel series to Castlevania that launched adult animation for the platform into the stratosphere, Netflix animated projects are firing on all cylinders. Next up for the streamer is Blue Eye Samurai. An adult animated series rated TV-MA and animated by Blue Spirit animation studio, Blue Eye Samurai has shared a visually stunning trailer and set its release date for November 3, 2023.

Utilizing a blend of animation styles, Blue Eye Samurai aims to immerse the viewer in a world of vivid adult animation with a live-action edge. Set in Edo-period Japan, the series follows Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise, seeking the deliverance of revenge. This story will be told over eight 45-minute episodes.

Along with the release date, Netflix has also released the voice cast of the main and additional characters in the animated series. The star-studded cast for this action and historical drama about genre and vengeance in 17th-century Japan is featured below the image.

The series was created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, who also serve as executive producers and writers on the series whom you may for their work on Blade Runner 2049 and Logan. Erwin Stoff serves an executive producer on the series. Jane Wu is the supervising director and producer.

Animation is a fantastic form of storytelling, and with more and more adult animated series and films coming out, here’s to hoping people in the United States begin to embrace it as more than just for kids—hopefully, Blue Eye Samurai can help us get there.

Blue Eye Samurai is currently set with a release date of November 3, 2023.
