PlayStation’s first State of Play for 2024 offered extended looks at some of the most anticipated games on PS5 in 2024. Most notable was the extended gameplay footage for Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin. Besides the two new games debuting in 2024, Hideo Kojima’s upcoming Death Stranding 2 also received a preview. This comes with the announcement that Kojima will be teaming up with Sony for an “espionage action” game to blend film and video games with cutting-edge technology for a more significant, immersive effect.

The Konami team revealed Silent Hill news. Silent Hill 2 is getting a remake and horror fans everywhere can play a free new Silent Hill game, Silent Hill: The Short Message, now on the PlayStation store.

Silent Hill: The Short Message is an all-new, short-form Silent Hill title featuring a young, contemporary protagonist. The whole game is available now and for free, which can serve as a great intro to the series or scratch that itch for players who have been long-awaiting news.

The remake of Silent Hill 2 got brand new gameplay footage in a trailer with a great final boy who looks an awful lot like Leon Kennedy.

Stellar Blade

State of Play

Stellar Blade was the first game given the spotlight. Developed by Shift Up and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the action-adventure is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 on April 26, 2024. The players play as Eve, intending to reclaim the Earth for humankind. Set in a post-apocalyptic earth, the players will interact with malfunctioning machines and robots as they’re led to the wasteland and great desert.

As Eve, players will stumble upon supply stations set up by previous squads. While there, players will find consumable items, acquire new skills, upgrade equipment, and more. Eve will encounter people in need and other non-human beings and must decide whether to assist or ignore them. The ultimate goal is to beat the elder NA:tive while facing hostile survivors or even worse.

Judas

Judas – Reveal Trailer | PS5 Games

Judas is a single player, narrative first person shooter developed by Ghost Story Games, a studio led by Ken Levine, Creative Director of System Shock 2, BioShock, and BioShock Infinite. A disintegrating starship. A desperate escape plan. You are the mysterious and troubled Judas.

The Bioshock developers are back with another twisted game. At the January 2024 State of Play, Ken Levine’s new project was revealed. Honing in on key factors that made Bioshock great, like characters and setting, Levine shared in the PlayStation Blog about how the team tackled this new story.

“With Judas (coming to PS5), we wanted to craft an experience where these decisions and how the story unfolds is up to you. Because you, as Judas, are the driver of every event in a story with a new cast of characters to get to know — and change — in ways you haven’t experienced before in our games.”

In Judas, you’ll move through the Mayflower. No, not an old rickety boat, but a spacefaring city where, in typical Levine form, the citizens have been taught to watch each other to a fault. Machines control every aspect of business, art, and government on the Mayflower. And you, of course, are pushing back.

Rise of the Ronan

State of Play

Team Ninja shared footage of Rise of the Ronin, a combat-focused open world RPG. Set in 19th-century Bakumatsu, players will engage in a wide range of combat and interact with historical figures in the game. Forge your fate as a ronin while experiencing the unique cityscape. Glide through the air using an ‘avicula’ and fully use attacks on guards by breaking the enemy’s stance. Players can choose combat styles that are advantageous to success. Handguns, swords, and long spears are all available weapons, and players can befriend an inventor who opens up a more incredible potential arsenal.

Rise of the Ronin is available March 22, 2024, PS5

Death Stranding 2

State of Play

Hideo Kojima announced the sequel Death Stranding 2.  Norman Reedus returns along with Léa Seydoux and Elle Fanning. The game isn’t due out until 2025. Still, Kojima was on hand to announce one more project, which he hints is the “culmination” of his work. While he couldn’t share much, Kojima promises a projection transcending the barriers between games and films.

You can watch the full trailer below and take in all the chaos that Kojima has to offer.
