Tokyo Indie Games Summit 2024 Reaches New Heights In Attendance

Held in Kichijoji, Tokyo, the annual Tokyo Indie Games Summit 2024 was a major success. The two day engagement offered space for both in person visitors and digital. It’s showcase for developers and indie games from both local talent and around the world. This year saw the event grow its 2023 attendance levels by 45%. The event had 4500 visitors. With 126 anticipated indie, new reveals and updates for fan favorites, there was no shortage of content.

The Tokyo Indie Games Summit began in 2023, touting the aim of becoming a space where “various talents of indie game creators gather together and become a catalyst to reach the top.” Creators have the chance to allow peaks into their works as they and users engage with one another on new platforms.

Kazunori Sakamoto, CEO of Phoenixx, founder of Tokyo Indie Games Summit praised the experience, saying that the events “year-over-year growth has been very inspiring, and we’re already putting together plans to make 2025 the best year yet…Many thanks to our sponsors, partners, and exhibitors who have chosen our venue to show their work. And a huge thank you to all of our visitors. We cannot wait to see you again next year!”

Many fan favorite titles were given the spotlight. These include:

  • Touhou Genso Wanderer -FORESIGHT-, the roguelike RPG Touhou Project fan game from publisher Phoenixx and developer AQUASTYLE, rebuilds sacred shrines on PC via Steam on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024.
  • SKY THE SCRAPER, the window-cleaning roguelike action game developed by Ryo Kobuchi and published by HYPER REAL and Toydium, coming to PC in 2024
  • Mika and the Witch’s Mountain, the package-delivery adventure co-developed by Chibig and Nukefist, distributes joy next year to PC via Steam in 2024

Other games highlighted included RPG titles such as Eternights – Deluxe Edition and Copycat. Puzzle game The Star Named EOS, and strategy centered Clash of Clans also made appearances.

Other events included panel discussions with legendary gaming industry figureheads. Touhou Project creator Jun’ya “ZUN” Ōta and Japanese game developer/comedian Noda Crystal discussed life as an indie game developer. Elsewhere, Sony Interactive Entertainment, SACRA MUSIC, and indie publisher Phoenixx took a glimpse at the future of indie game music. Digital Hearts showcased the next generation of AI localization.
