The end is nigh for Penn Badgley‘s Joe Goldberg in YOU Season 5, and his end may come sooner than fans think. Netflix has announced that the final season of the acclaimed thriller will premiere in 2025, giving the character a proper send-off and fans some closure. It’s sure to be a killer goodbye.

In a synopsis fit for our current holiday season, YOU Season 5 has Joe returning back to New York City, where it all began. This time, he’s hoping to enjoy his happily ever after, but happiness is once again fleeting for the serial killer. Instead, his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires. But with this being the final season, will he get his just desserts, or perhaps he will once again get away scot-free? Time will tell!

Particularly since in Season 4, Joe finally came to terms with the fact that he’s not a good person. With the burden of denial lifted from his shoulders, how will that knowledge come to impact his future movements in Season 5? Either way, the final season could potentially feature Joe at his most unhinged now that he finally accepts who he is. Just not the consequences of his actions.

Who’s in the cast of You Season 5?

Badgley is reuniting with Charlotte Richie, who returned as Joe’s wealthy partner, Kate. This season will focus on Joe’s extended family, giving us a chance to explore Kate and the people in her circle more—until they do something to irk Joe. Filling out Kate’s family unit are Griffin Matthews, who will portray her brother, Teddy Lockwood, and Anna Camp, who will portray Kate’s identical twin sisters, Raegan and Maddie Lockwood.

Madeline Brewer will also join the cast, though not as a member of Kate’s family. Instead, she enters Joe’s life as Bronte, a playwright who comes to work at Joe’s bookstore. Through their interactions, Joe begins to long for his old life, a life before all the death, crime, and living life on the lamb. Again, for Joe, happiness is fleeting, and it’s never too long before he longs for something more.

But the series would be nothing with its moving ensemble cast, and there are some other new faces joining that will also spice things up.

Season 5’s recurring cast includes:
  • Natasha Behnam as Dominique, who appears to be an aloof hipster. But Dominique is, in fact, a passionate, clever, fiercely loyal young woman. Despite her wealthy upbringing, she’s a headstrong caretaker among her scrappy artist friends.
  • b as Phoenix, a shrewd and resourceful person with a strong moral code. Their young life was upended by tragedy, setting them on a course that led to New York and a search for renewed purpose.
  • Pete Ploszek as Harrison, Joe’s golden retriever brother-in-law. A former pro football player and trophy husband to Reagan Lockwood, Harrison must balance the needs of his family with his own heart’s desires.
  • Tom Francis as Clayton, a pretentious, self-absorbed, wannabe author whose vindictive, controlling nature draws Joe’s attention.
  • Nava Mau as Detective Marquez. She remains a bit of a mystery at this time, but given Joe’s track record, Marquez will likely be hot on his tail.
What more can fans expect from YOU Season 5?

YOU Season 5

Ultimately, fans should expect the end of YOU. While not much has been revealed further plot-wise, the original plan was to always have five seasons. This means that, with all the growth the series has had over the years, the plan continues to be to wrap things up in 2025. However, fans should be reassured by what is to come.

“We’re proud to see how YOU has captivated audiences around the world, becoming an instant sensation on Netflix with a resounding cultural impact that has grown season over season,” said Peter Friedlander, vice president of scripted series, Netflix, US and Canada. “We’re excited — and a bit terrified — to see how it all ends for Joe Goldberg, but one thing is for sure: You are in for an unforgettable ending.”

With the promise of the unforgettable, fans should expect 2025 to be a wild time. If not for us, the viewers, then especially for Joe Goldberg, who is long overdue for some justice to be delivered to him. Stay tuned for more news from Netflix regarding YOU Season 5 soon.
